The caps are solid and include a flexible "o" ring for added security. The shape, materials used and color provide a very good looking base that fits perfectly with the umbrella.

This base is plastic, but it is sturdy although with rest of the umbrella being aluminum I'm not sure why they skimped on the design and didn't make it as nice of the quality to match the umbrella.

Two of the sections are ribbed on the bottom side, and need to use a stick to shove sand into the ends of each section. This would not deter me from buying again.
