MN8-1-2023If you are using an expensive umbrella on a deck there really isn’t another logical option than this mounting bracket. It looks so much cleaner than the large awkward sand/water filled bases. It takes up much less room and there’s no tripping hazard. I expected to get two plates, bolts, and nuts to secure from below. Instead of nuts the bottom plate is threaded. This means the holes you drill through the deck need to be perfect or oversized. So it took longer to install than I anticipated. Time will tell if the threads on the plate hold up but if they strip I can always add a locknut later. Best unbrella upgrade ever!

So far, it appears as sturdy or even better than a large base. Only issue is the installation. It is difficult to drill holes and line up each end so that bolts will screw in.

Elmhurst, IL3-19-2016Love not having those giant plastic weights filled with sand. I put it in last week and it seems very sturdy. We had one day of strong winds (15-20mph with gusts up to 30mph). I put it up for just a few minutes to see how well it can handle it. It looked like that was too much wind for it to handle. It looked like after a while (all day? or a few weeks?) the deck planks would rip away from the joists, or just crack in half (cedar deck). With that strong of winds the umbrella was jostled around quite a bit to the point you wouldn't want to sit under it.

Very strong it has a very thick steel ring for the top and bottom of the deck that get sandwiched between the deck boards, Very strong and takes less space.
