Durable and sturdy enough for any space, the Newport bench can be used for both commercial and residential. Beautifully crafted in sustainable bamboo, Newport's natural oil finish showcases the inherent beauty of bamboo's natural color and grain. No stain is used, the color is achieved through the process of caramelizing the natural sugars in the bamboo with earth friendly heat, steam, and pressure. Variation in grain and color enrich the natural beauty of bamboo furniture and make each piece unique. Slight differences in bamboo shade colors are signs that the furniture has been crafted from solid bamboo and is considered a benchmark of quality. The most sustainable alternative to tropical hardwood is bamboo; a highly renewable and rapidly growing sustainable resource growing to full maturity in as little as 3-5 years, bamboo is one of the most earth friendly building materials on the planet. Bamboo grows much faster than the 25-30 years or more for many hardwoods to mature to harvest status. Our bamboo is selectively harvested; hand cut and acquired from locally owned and managed forests within close proximity to the factory, reducing the carbon footprint left behind through cleaner harvesting techniques and any emissions from transportation. Bamboo reduces the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide, releasing about 35% more oxygen than equivalent stands of trees, making it one of the best plants on earth to sequester carbon. As bamboo is a plant from the grass family, when it is harvested, it does release carbon, the carbon stays within the soil, sequestered in the rhizome root system.
